Accountability & Measurement

What We're Actually Measuring Success By

Every enterprise Experiment Inc. launches exists to produce Kingdom Outcomes — identity restored, communities strengthened, Jesus made visible through how business is done. Profit isn't the reason any of them exist. But if Kingdom Outcomes are the actual goal, we owe it to the mission, and to the people who fund it, to know whether we're actually achieving them — not just assume we are because our intentions are good.

Measuring the System Isn't the Same as Measuring a Person's Worth

The Connection Worldview rightly rejects a world where a person's value is determined by what they produce. But that's a claim about people, not about systems. A business is not a person. Tracking whether an enterprise is healthy, growing, financially sound, and actually serving people well isn't a betrayal of that conviction — it's honest stewardship of something entrusted to us. We're not going to tiptoe around measurement out of fear of it. We take it seriously, on purpose.

Trusting the Chain

Some of what we care about most is hard to measure directly. You can't run an instrument on identity restoration. But outcomes don't happen in isolation — they build on each other, from the inside out. When the outward outcomes are real — reconciliation, flourishing, transformed systems, people encountering Jesus through what they've watched happen — we can trust the inward ones are real too, because the whole chain only moves in that direction. We don't need to measure the invisible directly. We watch for what it produces.

Judgment vs. Discernment

The real distinction isn't whether we measure — it's what we do with what we find. Measurement as judgment ranks, scores, and determines worth. Measurement as discernment tells the truth about what's actually happening so it can be stewarded honestly, including when the truth is that something isn't working. Most organizations never actually think this distinction through. We have — and that's not a tension to manage quietly. It's part of what qualifies us to measure well in the first place.
